Below are pictures taken while transiting the Panama Canal in “Daydream” and as line handlers on “Sarema” during their transit.
Our transit was exciting with the three up-locks done in the middle of the night with a much smaller Czechoslovakian sailboat, Argo, rafted to us. We then spent the night in Lake Gatun and had an unexpected tug of war with a submerged tree that tried to eat our anchor early the next morning. Once we were free, we towed Argo, as arranged, through the Canal to the down-locks as they were unable to maintain enough speed to meet the requirements of the Canal. Finally we negotiated the three down-locks with Argo rafted to one side and another yacht, Interlude, rafted to the other.
